Facebook PlacesWhy should you claim your business’s Place on Facebook?

By claiming your place you can manage your place’s address, contact information, business hours, profile picture, admins and other settings. You can then start using Check-In Deals to engage your customers and grow your business.

How do I claim a place for my business on Facebook?

  • Search for your business name via the Facebook Search bar.
    • If a place for your business already exists, click on it.
    • If a place for your business does not yet exist, you’ll need to visit the business’s physical location with your mobile phone and create a place for it.
  • Once you find your business’s place, click the link at the bottom left of that says “Is this your business?”
  • You will be directed to a claiming flow. Facebook will ask you to verify that you are the owner through a phone verification process, or you may be asked for document verification.

If your claim is confirmed, you will be able to admin your business’s place on Facebook.

I have two Facebook Pages or Places for the same thing. Can I merge them?

Yes, you can merge duplicate Pages and Places. Please note you will only be able to merge the Page or Place with fewer likes into the one with more likes. To do so:

  1. Go to the Page or Place with the most likes. This will be the one you’ll keep.
  2. Click the Edit Page button in the top right corner.
  3. From the left sidebar, select Resources.
  4. Click the Merge duplicate Pages link. This link will only appear if you admin two Pages with similar names.
  5. A dialogue will show Pages and Places you admin that qualify to be merged. Select the Page(s) you wish to merge. If you’re merging a Place and a Page, they must have the same address information.

Please note: The Page or Place with fewer likes will be removed from Facebook and you will not be able to unmerge them.

I can’t find my business’s place on Facebook.

Facebook places is still in development and does not yet include all business locations. If you cannot find your business by searching for it on Facebook, you can create a Facebook Place for it, and then claim it for your business.

How do I delete a Page or Place?

To delete your Page or Place:

  1. Click Edit Page in the upper-right corner of your Page
  2. Select Manage Permissions from the left sidebar
  3. Click Delete [Your Page Name]

You will have the option to unpublish or delete your Page. If you choose to delete your Page, please note that its removal is permanent.

Check-in Deals are based on people’s Facebook check-ins when they visit your business. You can run check-in deals across multiple store locations, and create different types of deals to achieve different business objectives.

How much does it cost to create check-in deals?

Check-in Deals are currently free to create. In the future, the product, product availability, and pricing are all subject to change.

What types of check-in deals can I create?

There are four types of check-in deals you can create.

  1. Individual Deal: You can offer this type of deal to both new and existing customers. You may create Individual Deals when you want to launch a new product, get rid of excess inventory, offer seasonal incentives, or simply get more people into your store.
  2. Friend Deal: Friend Deals allow you to offer discounts to groups of up to 8 people, when they check in together. Friend Deals are a great way to build even more exposure for your business because more stories are generated when multiple people check-in.
  3. Loyalty Deal: To focus on rewarding your most loyal customers, create a Loyalty Deal. These deals may be claimed by customers only after a certain number of check-ins. Depending on your business, the number of check-ins may vary. Please note that you must create a deal that is redeemable after no fewer than two and no more than 20 check-ins.
  4. Charity Deal: Create a Charity Deal to make a donation to the charity of your choice. This is a great way for your business to give back to the community while adding a human touch to your business.

Why should a business create a check-in deal?

Check-in Deals can help you engage with your customers and grow your business. Check-in Deals allow you to reward loyal customers with discounts and other special offers, so you can build valuable relationships with this influential audience.

In addition, Facebook users have 130 friends on average, which means that if someone checks in to your business and you’re offering a deal, their friends have the opportunity to hear about it through word of mouth marketing that is generated naturally on Facebook.

Lastly, over 200 million people use Facebook on their mobile devices and they are looking to discover what’s happening nearby. By offering a check-in deal, you give these new potential customers great reasons to stop by your business.
